The Mayor of the district has condemned the case of Mahatma Gandhi's statue damaged in Davis, California, USA. Gandhi's statue in Davis's Central Park was damaged by mischievous elements. A 6-foot high and 300 kg heavy bronze statue of Mahatma Gandhi was installed in Davis' Central Park.

Regarding this matter, the Mayor of Davis said that we condemn this incident. We do not support the act of harming any property. There is diversity in our society and we should respect each other's ideals. We are committed to creating a district where everyone's ideals are respected. He said that it is our duty to ensure the safety of everyone's thoughts and people in the district. This case of violence and sabotage has damaged our values.

The mayor said that those who have done this act will be punished. This case will be investigated in detail and the culprits will be punished. We have our sympathies with the people voicing this incident, but one thing we would like to clarify is that such incidents can not be answered in violent ways but through dialogue and discussion. We hope that our society will move forward in a peaceful manner and such incidents will not happen in the future. This is the same statue that was given by the Government of India as a gift to Davis District in 2016.
