Influential US Congressman, Matt Cartwright, has voiced his support for the removal of the seven per cent country quota on Green Card issuance, particularly advocating for highly skilled professionals from India. This move aims to address the prolonged waiting periods faced by Indian professionals seeking permanent residency in the United States.

Highlighting the significance of skilled migration to the US, Congressman Cartwright emphasized the country's reliance on talented individuals from across the globe to contribute to its economy and innovation landscape. He stressed the importance of welcoming individuals based on merit rather than arbitrary quotas, citing India's abundance of highly educated and skilled workforce as a valuable resource for the US.

Cartwright's support aligns with efforts by Indian American organizations, including the Foundation for India and Indian Diaspora (FIIDS), who have been campaigning for the elimination of per-country quotas on Green Cards. He underscored that restricting immigration based on nationality disproportionately affects countries like India, which boasts a large pool of qualified professionals eager to contribute to the American economy and society.

Reflecting on the historical tradition of welcoming intellect and talent to the US, Cartwright cautioned against hindering this tradition with arbitrary quotas. He emphasized the importance of fostering economic and cultural ties between the US and India, recognizing the valuable contribution of Indian expatriates to communities across America.

Cartwright's visit to the BAPS Temple in Robbinsville, New Jersey, provided him with firsthand insight into the vibrant Indian community in his district. He expressed admiration for the community's dedication and contribution, highlighting the temple's construction, which involved 12,000 volunteers. Such initiatives, he noted, exemplify the kind of skilled and community-oriented individuals the US seeks to attract.

Overall, Congressman Cartwright's advocacy for the removal of Green Card quotas underscores the importance of attracting and retaining highly skilled professionals from India, promoting economic growth, and fostering cultural exchange between the two nations.
