Kiev: In a notable move amplifying the regional security landscape, the United States has granted approval for the dispatch of F-16 fighter jets from Denmark and the Netherlands to Ukraine.

These aircraft will play a pivotal role in bolstering Ukraine's defense capabilities against potential Russian aggression. The deployment is slated to occur once pilot training reaches completion, according to a U.S. official's statement on Thursday.

Ukraine, seeking to counterbalance Russian air superiority, has actively pursued the acquisition of U.S.-manufactured F-16 fighter jets. In response, Washington has issued formal assurances to Denmark and the Netherlands, both at the forefront of the training coalition, assuring them of a streamlined approval process for third-party transfer requests involving F-16s destined for Ukraine.

In his letter, Blinken affirmed, "It remains critical that Ukraine is able to defend itself against ongoing Russian aggression and violation of its sovereignty."

Blinken further outlined that expediting these third-party requests would empower Ukraine to promptly harness its enhanced capabilities, as soon as the first cohort of pilots completes their training.
