Washington DC: Corona is wreaking haoc in the United States. Over 300,000 people have now died because of the virus in the United States, with the latest milestone coming amid record daily fatalities and the national rollout of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine. The vaccination drive started on Monday hoping to turn the tide on the world's biggest coronavirus outbreak.

The start of vaccination program coincided with several European countries announcing new lockdowns amid increasing corona cases. The first shot was given shortly after 9am ET on Monday morning at the Long Island Jewish Medical Center in Queens, New York. Intensive care nurse Sandra Lindsay became the first person not enrolled in the vaccine trials to receive it. New York nurse Sandra Lindsay became the first person in America to receive the Pfizer-BioNTech shot.

The US is worst hit by the virus. According to the latest figures from Johns Hopkins University’s coronavirus resource, over 300,456 fatalities in the US, and more than 16m cases.  In order to end this virus as soon as possible, The US government is aiming to distribute the first wave of 2.9 million vaccine doses to 636 locations nationwide by the end of the week.
