US President Joe Biden will travel to South Korea and Japan next month to attend the QUAD summit in Tokyo, where he will also meet India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi, whitge House said in a statement.
Biden's trip to South Korea and Japan is set to take place from May 20 to May 24. "This trip will further the Biden-Harris Administration's rock-solid commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific," White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said here on Wednesday. Biden will also meet with South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol and Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio.
"The leaders will discuss ways to strengthen our vital security relationships, strengthen economic ties, and broaden our close cooperation in order to achieve practical results." President Biden will also meet with the leaders of Australia, Japan, India, and the United States in Tokyo. "We hope to have more information about this trip to share soon," Psaki said.
The leaders will also meet with the country's newly-elected President Yoon Suk-yeol on May 21. Yoon welcomed Biden's planned visit, during which they will discuss the two countries' alliance, North Korea, and other regional and international issues. "The summit is expected to serve as a historic turning point in the two countries' comprehensive strategic alliance."
