Ramallah: According to Israeli sources, Washington has informed Tel Aviv that it will not issue entry visas to the US for Israeli security personnel or settlers who use violence in the West Bank.

Additionally, the US warned that if Israel used its military assistance against Palestinians in the West Bank, it could reduce or stop providing annual guarantees for $33 billion in aid over the next ten years.

This development occurred at the same time that Benjamin Netanyahu, the new Israeli prime minister, announced the formation of a new government.

After the election victory of right-wing Israeli parties in early November, Washington has warned Netanyahu via its ambassador to Israel, Tom Nides.

President Joe Biden has stated that there are certain boundaries that the US will not tolerate being crossed. These boundaries include Israel acting unilaterally to thwart the two-state solution and altering the status quo at the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem.

The Netanyahu administration must comply with US demands because it needs weapons from Washington for military operations in Iran, according to Israeli political analyst Yoni Ben Menachem, who spoke to Arab News.

Because he needs to acquire this American weapon, Netanyahu "will not engage in a confrontation with Biden, and he informed both (coalition partners Itamar) Ben-Gvir and (Bezalel) Smotrich of this," Ben Menachem said to Arab News.

According to the analyst, Biden does not desire a confrontation with Netanyahu because doing so would embolden radicals in the incoming administration, jeopardise the Palestinian Authority and the two-state solution, and strengthen extremists.

According to Palestinian political analyst Ghassan Al-Khatib, the Biden administration was challenged and embarrassed by the new Israeli government's makeup.

Al-Khatib claimed that the president would put pressure on Netanyahu to rein in the far-right elements of his coalition, which would also be in the new prime minister's best interests to lessen their influence over him

In order to encourage more Arab nations to normalise their relations with Israel and acquire cutting-edge American weapons, Netanyahu has long pursued a strategy of exaggerating the Iranian threat to the region. He also uses this threat to imply an existential threat against Israel on the home front.

But he finds it difficult to advance the viewpoint while asserting that the Palestinian Authority represents a comparable existential threat.

While this is happening, the PA may gain from US pressure on Israel and the presence of extreme right-wing elements in government to redouble its own efforts to strengthen ties with European nations and international organisations.

Palestinian sources claim that the Jewish shrine of Joseph's Tomb, which is situated in the heart of Nablus next to the Balata refugee camp, has turned into a flashpoint for unrest and violence.

Several religious settlers frequently storm the site while being protected by the Israel Defense Force, which frequently results in stone-throwing or armed clashes between Palestinians, settlers, and the IDF.

Twenty Palestinians are believed to have died at the site since the year's beginning, the most recent of whom was soccer player Ahmed Daraghmeh, who passed away on Wednesday night in an incident that also injured 22 others when Palestinian militants and Israeli soldiers escorting Jewish worshippers to the tomb in the Palestinian city exchanged fire.

According to Palestinian sources, incursions grew after Netanyahu and his allies did well in the November elections, and settlers inflamed tensions by sharing images and videos of their visit to the shrine on social media.

A senior Palestinian security official in Nablus, who wished to remain unnamed, told Arab News that the IDF and settlers frequently entered the region without first officially coordinating with the Palestinian security forces and instead made announcements in advance on official settler websites and Israeli social media.

The Palestinian officer claimed that when they arrive, there is frequently loud music, dancing, screaming, and partying. He also claimed that settlers frequently set up tables full of food at the shrine. He continued, "This is a provocative act, not a prayer."

According to the official, visits used to only happen once a month during the daytime, when Palestinians in the area were typically at work or school, but now they happen more frequently and are typically at night, with increasingly inflammatory, far-right overtones.

Since every visit to the shrine ends in violence and, increasingly, the killing and wounding of Palestinians, the visits increase the security burden and cause general embarrassment for the Palestinian security services.

Palestinian residents are concerned about the whereabouts of the Palestinian security force that is supposed to shield us from army oppression and invading settlers. The source told Arab News that "according to the agreements with the Israeli side, we cannot engage in armed clashes with the Israeli army because doing so would damage the reputation and image of the Palestinian security forces in the eyes of its people.

The shrine, second only to Al-Aqsa Mosque in the West Bank in terms of bloodshed and tense situations involving Palestinians, the IDF, and Israeli settlers, according to his account.

The IDF and settlers are welcomed to the tomb, but the Palestinian police leave when they arrive.

The clashes at Joseph's Tomb were caused by the frailty of the Palestinian security forces in Nablus, which are no longer in charge of the city, an Israeli source told Arab News.
