New Delhi:: Union Minister Jitendra Singh today urged the adoption of Hindi in Government Departments so that the projects and programmes do not suffer and fall behind.

It is stated an official release that the PM Modi Government has taken numerous initiatives over the past nine years to promote the use of Hindi in official communications. He made this statement while presiding over the 2nd Meeting of the Joint Hindi Consultative Committee of the Department of Space (DoS) and Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) on Monday in New Delhi.

The legacy of 200 years under British rule that imposed English in the Commonwealth cannot be undone in such a short time, he said, especially since almost no sincere efforts have been made in the six decades since Independence to promote the Indian lexicon. "Recently, Hindi dictionaries have been published on technology related subjects and even medical terminology," he said.

Jitendra Singh emphasised language adaptability and flexibility, warning against rigidity and literal translation, which can lead to a dead end when dealing with terms like "steel plant" and "outreach".

Instead of being dogmatic about finding a language similar term for such things, he added, "We need to adjust such words because each language has its own words depending on the place it is prevalent in.

For further promotion of Hindi in official use, Singh instructed the Department officials to maintain regular contact with the members of the Hindi Consultative Committee.

Members of the Committee provided insightful recommendations on how to use Hindi, including commissioning dictionaries on new seed varieties and cancer therapy with appropriate images from the DAE, bilingual Code Manuals, and a dictionary of space science in addition to an updated departmental website in Hindi. In addition, they demanded that Hindi be promoted at universities and technical schools like the IITs.
