People of Punjab are going to get rid of the plastic package of Verka milk. The Punjab government plans to bring a new policy in this matter by the next session of the assembly. This announcement was made by the Cooperative Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa in response to a question asked by MLA Avtar Singh Jr during the Question Hour in the Punjab Assembly on Monday.

Avatar Jr. wanted to know in the House how much milk production/processing took place in the state during the year 2018-19. What was the total number of plastic envelopes used for packing this milk? In response to this, the Cooperative Minister told in the House that during the year 2018-19, data of milk production is available with the Director Animal Husbandry Department Punjab.

According to the Director of Animal Husbandry, 125988.1 lakh liters of milk was processed in the organized sector during the year 2018-19. During this period, Milkfed Punjab procured/processed 5991.76 lakh liters of milk. The Cooperative Minister also stated that the number of plastic envelopes used for selling and packing milk in Milkfed was around 80 crores and 1803.679 tonnes of the plastic film were used to make them.
