Lucknow: Election results for five states, including Uttar Pradesh and Punjab, are being declared today. In the ongoing election tussle for the past two months, political parties have made many kinds of attacks on each other, the result of which will be in front of the people today. In Uttar Pradesh, there is a maha-match between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Samajwadi Party (SP), while in Punjab, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has made a hue and cry to take on the Congress.
Before the counting of votes began, the District Magistrate of Varanasi has informed that the counting of postal ballots will begin from 8 am, after which the counting of EVM votes will take place. Section 144 has been imposed in Varanasi. Before the counting of votes started, there has been a commotion at all the counting centres. Akhilesh Yadav is the candidate from the Karhal assembly seat in Mainpuri, UP, where tight security arrangements have been made.
Even before the results were announced, there has been constant controversy over EVMs in Uttar Pradesh. In the surrounding areas, including Varanasi, there has been an uproar ever since EVMs, ballot papers were found at suspicious places. Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav has levelled serious allegations against the state and central governments and appealed to the Election Commission to be fair in the results.
