Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh is going to the polls today for the block major elections. So far 334 blockheads in the state have been elected unopposed. Polling is underway in 476 seats today. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) claims that out of 349 block chiefs elected unopposed, 334 blockheads belong to the BJP, the rests are Samajwadi Party (SP) and independents.

Voting is underway today for 476 posts of block chief in the state. The voting will take place between 11 am and 3 pm. After that counting will take place and then the results will be declared.  A total of 1778 nominations were received for 825 blockhead posts in 75 districts of the state in the nomination slated for yesterday (Friday).  Out of these, 68 nominations were rejected during the investigation. This was followed by a total of 1710 candidates. A total of 187 candidates withdrew their nominations on the day of withdrawal of nominations yesterday.

With only one candidate left in a total of 349 posts, he has been declared the winner unopposed, with the BJP claiming to win 334 seats. State that there are a total of 75852 posts of Area Panchayat members in 825 blocks of the State. Panchayat members are voting to elect one of their area panchayat members as their blockhead.
