Lucknow: The problems of house builders in Uttar Pradesh are set to increase as brick kilns in the state are going to be closed for a year. The UP Bricks Association is upset over the increase in GST on bricks. The association has decided to close down brick kilns after a 200 to 300 per cent hike in coal prices and an increase in GST.

In fact, UP was supposed to get 12 lakh tonnes of coal every year, but in the last four years, only 76,000 tonnes of coal have been received. Coal coming from abroad has become very expensive. At the same time, the UP Bricks Association, government and semi-government constructions are also facing a partial ban on red bricks. The UP Bricks Association says that the price of coal has been increased by 350 per cent, even as the GST on labour contracts has been increased from 5 per cent to 12 per cent, on the other hand, the central government is adopting a new tactic to make bricks from the residual ash of thermal power plants, under which GST has been reduced on the one hand. On the other hand, the directory was issued that the use of bricks made of ash in building construction and government construction of more than 20,000 square feet will be mandatory.

This is the reason why the Bricks Association has decided to go on strike by closing brick kilns in the state and the country for a year. In UP, it has been decided to keep brick kilns closed from October 2022 to September 2023 and go on strike in the country. There are 19,000 brick kilns in the state, which will remain closed for a year. This will have a direct impact on those who build houses. That is, in the coming time, the price of brick can touch the sky.
