UP government claims, '51 lakh migrant laborers employed so far'

Lucknow: Information advisor to Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath on Sunday claimed that the state government has given employment to 51 lakh workers returned to the state due to the lockdown and there are plans to provide 10 lakh more jobs next week. CM Yogi's information advisor Mrityunjay Kumar claimed that till now the state government has given employment to 51 lakh migrant laborers.

He said that most of these jobs have been given under MNREGA scheme. According to a statement issued by the state government, the principal secretary of the rural development department told CM Yogi in a meeting that 51 lakh workers have been linked to employment in the state. Mrityunjay said that the state government will give employment to 10 lakh additional people next week. Ever since the lockdown implemented across the country on 25 March, migrant workers living in various states started returning to their homes.

Millions of them were from Uttar Pradesh. Ever since the workers returned to the state, CM Adityanath had ordered the officials of his government to create employment opportunities for such people. CM Yogi Adityanath had ordered the employment of these migrants from 'one district, one product' scheme to MNREGA and other schemes.
