Lucknow: The state's Yogi government has stepped up its preparations regarding the panchayat elections in Uttar Pradesh. With the passage of the reservation rules in the panchayat elections in the cabinet meeting held on Tuesday, now the path of reservation in the panchayats has been cleared. The uniform reservation will now be applicable in all 75 districts.

Two sections of the amendment to 10 have been removed from the Panchayati Raj Rules. Now reservation will be done on the basis of the population of the year 2011. Scheduled tribe women will be given first preference. If their population is not there, Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes respectively will be given preference in the reservation. Reservation of the post of Gram Pradhan and Gram Panchayat members will be decided by considering the block as a unit. Districts will be considered as units for the post of Zilla Panchayat member. Reservation for the post of District Panchayat President will be determined at the state level.

This roster of the reservation will be prepared before 17 March. Recently, the Allahabad High Court ordered the Election Commission and the UP government to hold the gram panchayat elections by 30 April so that all panchayats can be formed by 15 May. The High Court also gave instructions to complete the work of reservation for the Panchayat elections by 17 March.
