Lucknow: Police have encountered miscreants who robbed jeweller Mahesh Verma in Uttar Pradesh's Firozabad on April 13. In the encounter, the miscreant was shot in the leg by the police, after which the police caught him when he was injured. Police have also recovered weapons and looted gold ornaments from him. About a week ago, when Mahesh Verma was coming home after closing his shop, robbers shot him near the temple and snatched his bag and fled from the spot.

After the robbery from the jewellery trader, the police were constantly on the lookout for the miscreants. Late at night, the UP police received information that a miscreant was going to Mahavir Nagar's house in Mahavir Nagar. Following a tip-off, a team of Ramgarh police and SOG launched a search operation near the culvert of Bendi.  During this time, while fleeing, his bike slipped and he started firing at the police with his gun. The police also retaliated and one bullet hit the miscreant's leg, injuring him and falling. Police arrested him on the spot and admitted him to the medical college for treatment.

On being arrested, the miscreant gave his name as Anurag alias Annu and revealed that he has three more accomplices. Police are now on the lookout for them. Police have recovered the looted jewellery, a 32 bore pistol and a bike from the accused.
