IMD department issued a warning for rainfall in Uttrakhand earlier. Now the state have received heavy rains across multiple places. The heavy rainfalls have led to several rivers flowing above the danger mark in the state. An alert has been sounded for river Ganga as level rises over the danger mark.
The Ganga and Bhagirathi rivers in Uttarakhand were flowing over the danger mark on Saturday. The state has been following three days of incessant rains especially in the hills. While, evacuating people from villages along the river banks has been undertaken. The residents of villages on the banks of the rivers are being moved to district administration-run shelters and other safe locations. Heavy rains has lashed out state over the last three days. It is measured that 142 mm at Chamoli on Saturday, Karnaprayag received 136 mm, 128mm in Pauri district’s Sri Nagar, 103.8mm in Rudraprayag, 97.2mm in Joshimath, while 53 mm in Rishikesh.
Additionally, risk of landslides due to heavy rains in the district also blocked three national highways and 84 motor roads with mounds of rubble have been triggered.
