The lockdown has also improved the health of the Ganges water. This has been confirmed by the assessment of the State Pollution Control and Environment Board. The board has found that the number of harmful bacteria in the Ganges from Devprayag to Harki Paadi in Haridwar has decreased and other types of dirt have also come down. Shortly after the lockdown, it was said that Ganga water is now Cleaner.

Now this has been confirmed by the assessment of the State Environment and Pollution Control Board. According to the data released by the board, the bio-oxygen demand in Har Ki Paidi has decreased by about 20 percent. This also means that the bacteria here are now needing twenty percent less oxygen to break down the organic particles. Another encouraging thing is that the harmful bacteria (coliform bacteria) in the Ganges water, from Devprayag to their feet. Has also reduced significantly.

For your information, let us tell you that the presence of this bacterium in Harki Paadi was found to be 26 percent in March 2020, which has come down to 17 percent. The board believes that the water here is now of Class A. This means that water can be used here with chlorine for drinking.
