30,000 Indians stranded abroad due to the pandemic Coronavirus have been brought back home by 158 aircraft till 25 May. Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri gave this information. The minister announced that another 49,000 people would be brought back by mid-June.
In his statement, Puri tweeted, "More than 30,000 Indians stranded abroad under Mission Vande load have returned back home by May 25 by 158 aircraft. Apart from this, 164 aircraft have gone out of India, more than 10 thousand people. Another 49,000 people will be brought back by mid-June. Also, India launched the biggest ever evacuation operation to bring back stranded Indians abroad due to the worldwide lockdown of the coronavirus. The campaign started on 7 May and its second phase started on 16 May. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) recently announced to extend the second phase of the mission by 13 June.
On Tuesday, 3,393 Indians returned home with the help of 19 flights to other countries including Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Bahrain, Manila, Singapore, Birmingham, New York, Moscow, Karaganda, Bishkek and Minsk. India has decided to operate additional aircraft from the US in the second phase of the Vanda Bharat Mission. Indian Embassy in America informed about this. According to the embassy, 11 other aircraft will be operational in the second phase from May 28 to June 15 to evacuate Indians from different parts of the US. Of the 11, four will operate from Chicago, two each from San Francisco, Washington DC and New York, and one will operate Newark. Meanwhile, the embassy has already started planning the third phase of the Vande Bharat Mission which will begin in the US from June 15.
