The Vatican has rejected one more of Keralite nun Sister Lucy Kalappura's appeals against the decision of the Franciscan Clarist Congregation (FCC) to expel her for "failing" to provide explanation for her lifestyle, which allegedly violated church rules.
Vatican ruled out the appeal of Sister Lucy Kalappura in the wake of her active participation in the agitation demanding the arrest of Bishop Franco Mulakkal of Jallandhar, accused of raping a nun belonging to the Missionaries of the Jesus Congregation.
The order by the Supreme Tribunal of Signatura Apostolica, which had been cited by superior general is, however, dated May 11, 2019. The superior general’s letter itself is dated May 27, 2020, although it has been delivered only now. She was expelled from the order in August 2019, but Lucy Kalappura manged to secure an order from the Mananthavadi Munisiff court against her eviction from the convent she had been staying in and submitted another appeal to Vatican.
The latest appeal has been rejected on the ground that the sister failed to explain the violation of the rules of her religious order, including the failure to wear her religious habit, her action in obtaining a driving licence without permission from her superiors as well as the purchase of a car, along with the publication of a book of poetry.
