New Delhi: Chief Justice of India (CJI) NV Ramana has termed access to justice as a "tool of social salvation." He said on Saturday (July 30) that only a very small part of the population reaches the courts and most of the people continue to suffer in silence in the absence of awareness and necessary means.

CJI Ramana was speaking at the first meeting of the All India District Legal Services Authorities. During this, he said that technology is playing an important role in empowering people. He urged the judiciary to "adopt modern technology tools to speed up delivering justice". CJI Ramana further said, "This is the vision of social, economic and political justice that our (Constitution's) preamble promises every Indian. The reality is that today only a small percentage of our population can approach the justice delivery system if needed. Due to a lack of awareness and necessary resources, most people continue to suffer in silence.''

CJI NV Ramana said, "Modern India was built with the goal of removing inequalities in the society. Democracy means providing space for the participation of all. This partnership would not be possible without social salvation. Access to justice is a means of social salvation.''
