New Delhi: - The Vice President and Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, Venkaiah Naidu, asked members of the House to ensure a constructive Budget Session, as it coincided with the historic 75th year of Independence and the 70th year of free India's electoral journey.
Naidu made his remarks in the House today, emphasising the importance of the context of this session and urging all sections to guarantee the greatest possible performance of the House during this session, reminding Members of the House's productivity of 93.50 percent during the Budget Session last year.
"These two important overarching discussions enable Members to raise any and every issue while adhering to the spirit of the Rules and Conventions of the House," Naidu said, noting that there will be a 13-hour debate on Motion of Thanks to President for his address to Members of both Houses (starting today) and a more than 11-hour debate on the Union Budget.
He advised members to take use of the chances presented during the debates.Naidu invited Members to reflect on the House's functioning during this historic year, noting that the Budget Session is taking place at the midpoint of the 75th year of Independence fought and won for 'Swaraj' by the people.
He pointed out that during the previous winter session, the House lost 52.10 percent of its functional time.
