NEW DELHI: Vice-President Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu on Friday met and congratulated Droupadi Murmu for being elected as the fifteenth  President of India. The Vice-President spent about 15 minutes with Murmu at her home on Umashankar Dikshit Marg in the nation's capital.

In a later post, the vice president's official Twitter account read: "The Vice President, Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu today met Smt. Droupadi Murmu Ji and congratulated her on being elected as the 15th President of India." Along with the Vice President, G. Kishan Reddy, a union minister, met the President-elect and offered her congratulations. 

"A new historical era that demands to be written in gold letters. Smt. Draupadi Murmu, an Adivasi woman, was elected president of India, which is not only a testament to the country's inherent strength but also provides compelling proof for @narendramodi. Aji's dedication to creating a new India in which social inclusion is the guiding principle. Hearty Greetings to the President, whose life and deeds serve as an example to all "After meeting Murmu, Reddy tweeted.

Several leaders and people from various backgrounds have reportedly been showing up to congratulate Murmu on her triumph since last night, according to sources.

President-elect Donald Trump was congratulated on his election on Thursday night by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Ministers Rajnath Singh and Amit Shah, BJP Chairman J. P. Nadda, and others.
