NEW DELHI: In their separate matches, defending champions Tamil Nadu and Vidarbha chased down totals to advance to the semifinals of the 2021 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Vidarbha upset Rajasthan and then chased down 85 comfortably to secure a nine-wicket win at the Air Force Ground in Palam, while Tamil Nadu's batting clicked to chase down a target of 182 with five wickets in hand against Kerala at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
On November 20, Tamil Nadu will face Hyderabad in the semifinals, while Vidarbha will face Karnataka.
N Jagadeesan, who was chasing 182, fell early. Tamil Nadu reached 58 runs towards the end of the power-play, thanks to Hari Nishanth's 32 runs and Sai Sudharsan's 32 runs. Nishanth was caught for a 22-ball 32 after the power play. Sudharsan smashed seven fours in his 31-ball 46 and was also part of a 57-run stand with skipper Vijay Shankar to help Tamil Nadu win (33 off 26 balls). Following the duo's dismissal, Sanjay Yadav scored a useful 32 off 22 balls with Shahrukh Khan, who hammered two sixes in his unbeaten 19 off 9. M Mohammed capped the chase with a six over cow corner as four of the side's batters reached the 30-run mark.
