Vijay Prakash is an Indian singer and musician. He has lent his voice for Hindi films like Blue, Yuvraj, Swades, Kaal, Lakshya, Mathrubhumi, Tere Naam, Cheeni Kum, Raavan, and Force. He has also acted in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Marathi films. He is one of Zee Kannada's for the Kannada reality show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa. He has also done shows with Zakir Hussain. He won the Karnataka Government's Best Playback Singer Award for the year 2016 for the song "Nammoorally Challigaldalli" from the film Beautiful Manasugalu.

He is one of four artists for the song "Jai Ho", which won the 2008 Academy Award for Best Original Song. In particular, he sang the part with the words "Jai Ho" which takes an extended high pitch at many junctions of the song. The song also won a Grammy Award in the "Best Song Writing for Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media" category. He has also won the very prestigious Filmfare Award for Best Male Playback Singer.

After moving to Mumbai in 1996, he became a student of Suresh Wadkar. Prakash was a participant in the program Sa Re Ga Ma on Zee TV, which was hosted by Sonu Nigam. He made it to the mega-finals in 1999. He later compared Sa Re Ga Ma Pa to Zee Kannada. He got his first break in Hindi cinema in 2002 with the film Baaz, and his first song was for AR Rahman in Ashutosh Gowariker's Swades, followed by the same musician's Tamil title track for the film. His song "Kavit" also became very famous in the Kannada film Gaalipata.

He has performed backing vocals for around 25 foreign films, including the film Couples Retreat, with music by AR Rahman. He has recorded for HDFC Life Insurance for commercials such as "Kabhi Chatpata" for Nor Soup and "Na Sar Jhuka Hai To Kabhi". In 2008 she sang the "Condom a Cappella" ringtone composed by Rupert Fernandes and produced by the BBC World Service Trust for an Indian safe sex campaign. In 2009, his song, "Jai Ho" (only the chorus, the original song is sung by Sukhwinder Singh), won the 2008 Academy Award for Best Original Song.
