He was born on October 30, 1940, in Pune, Maharashtra. Vikram's family has been active in Hindi films for a very long time. His great-grandmother was the first Indian artist in Hindi films. At the same time, his grandmother has also been a child artist in Hindi films. In 1913, his grandmother acted in the movie 'Mohini Bhasmasura.' The film was directed by Dadasaheb Phalke of Father of Indian Cinema. His father Chandrakant was also a legendary theatre artist.

One of the highlights of the same Gokhale is that he is an actor as well as a social worker. He formed an organization 23 years ago in which they provide things to disabled soldiers, children and the needy. In 2016, he stopped performing stage shows due to throat disease.
