Crime against women are increasing day by day. These days the instances of killing a woman by a group of people are increasing. In a yet another horrific incident. A 50-year-old woman was lynched in front of her house in Odisha's Ganjam district on Wednesday for allegedly seeking police help to get her detained husband released.

The woman is identified as Jhunu Nahak (50) of Madhiapali village within Ganjam's Kabisuryanagar police station limits. According to the police, no less than 50 persons were detained and 33, including 20 women, were produced before the court in connection with the incident.

They killed the woman after the people of Madhiapali on Wednesday detained four people after a rumour spread in the village that they practised witchcraft and Black Magic They were rounded up and assaulted by a large group of villagers although they denied the allegation. One of the four people was victim Jhunu Nahak’s husband.

As Jhunu Nahak's husband was among the detained men she reached out to the local police to get him released from the captivity of the mob. When the villagers learnt that the woman lodged a complaint with the police, they set out to her home on Wednesday night.

According to information, A large number of villagers had assembled before her house when Jhunu Nahak returned from the police station. They dragged her out of the house and beat her to death. Later, a large police team reached Madhiapali and rescued the four men who were held hostage by the violent mob. Fearing Jhunu Nahak's faith, the families of the three men fled the village as soon as they were released.  Two platoons of armed police force remain stationed in the village although the situation was immediately brought under control. Further investigation is going in the matter.
