Chandigarh: Enraged over the suspension of paddy procurement by the central government in Punjab and Haryana, Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij said on Saturday that the farmers' agitation was turning violent day by day.  Vij said in a tweet, "Violent agitation will not be permitted in Mahatma Gandhi's country. Farmers' leaders should be patient during the agitation."

The Center said on Friday, the delay in procurement of paddy, which was to start from Punjab and Haryana on October 1 till October 11, "is in the overall interest of farmers and consumers as well as due to unseasonal rains, maturation of paddy grains". Is. It's getting delayed".

There was widespread protest and outrage over the delay in procurement in Punjab and Haryana. A day earlier, Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi also met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi and requested him to withdraw the decision to suspend paddy procurement by 10 days.

In protest, Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Badal reached the head office of the Food Corporation of India here to get the moisture of food grains checked with a trolley full of paddy. Talking to the media, Badal said that the moratorium in paddy procurement will spell doom for the state's economy.

“Farmers had planned in advance and started harvesting their crop from last few days. Paddy had also reached the 'mandis' in the state. Postponement of procurement will not only harass the farmers but will also threaten the paddy crop in case of spoilage. weather," he said.
