New Delhi: Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting has revealed that Virat Kohli had asked him to step down from the T20 and ODI captaincy during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. There has been a controversy about captaincy in Indian cricket for some time now, meanwhile, Ricky Ponting's statement is surprising. 

Ricky Ponting reacted to Virat Kohli's decision to quit the captaincy in an interview. The legendary Australian batsman said that Virat Kohli's decision to quit the Test captaincy was shocking, because what I had talked to him during the IPL was not like that. According to Ricky Ponting, during IPL 2021, Virat Kohli had told him about his decision to give up the captaincy of the white ball format. But he was very keen on captaining the Test team then and wanted to captain constantly. Under the leadership of Virat Kohli, Team India  has touched great heights in Test cricket. 

Ricky Ponting said, "In such a situation, when I heard that Virat Kohli has also given up the captaincy of the Test team, I was stunned.
