VK Sasikala to pay tribute to Muthuramalinga Thevar by visiting Ramanathapuram and Madurai

Tamil Nadu: VK Sasikala, former aide of Jayalalithaa and former interim general secretary of AIADMK, will visit Ramanathapuram and Madurai on Friday as part of plans to return to the party, and is expected to pay tribute to U Muthuramalinga Thevar, who is known as the Thevar caste- Considered an important person to the group. He is also expected to lay wreaths at the idols of Thevar and Marudu Pandiyar brothers in Madurai.

Sasikala's visit is considered a step to bring her back in the party with the support and blessings of the community to which she belongs. The AIADMK seems to be divided over Sasikala herself and her repeated moves to gain a foothold within the party. The first trend of Sasikala getting support was former Chief Minister and current co-coordinator of the party O Panneerselvam, who is also from Thevar community. The OPS had said in a press conference held in Madurai on Monday that the party high command would decide on Sasikala's re-entry after discussion.

He further said that anyone can enter politics, but it is left to the public to accept them. A few days back, EPS had said that there was no question of Sasikala returning to the party. Senior leaders D Jayakumar and KP Munnuswamy said there was no place for them in the party. OPS' statement that the party high command will decide on his admission. This statement is naturally due to his support in the Thevar community which is a major political force in southern Tamil Nadu and being a member of the community the OPS cannot oppose it. Though no other leader of stature has given open support for him, opposition to his entry is overwhelming with leaders like EPS, Munuswamy, Jayakumar and CV Shanmugam openly opposing his return.
