RAIPUR, CHHATTISGARH: The first phase of the three-tier panchayat elections started on Monday in 53 blocks across Chhattisgarh. People were seen casting their votes at polling stations, including in Nimora village.
The Chhattisgarh Election Commission had earlier announced that the elections would take place in three phases from February 17, 20, and 23. The results will be declared on February 18, 21, and 24.
Just a few days ago, on February 15, Union Minister and BJP National President JP Nadda congratulated Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and party workers for their victory in the Chhattisgarh civic polls. The BJP secured all 10 mayoral posts, along with chairperson positions in 35 municipal councils and 81 Nagar Panchayats.
Nadda called this win "historic," saying it showed people's trust in the government's welfare schemes under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. In a social media post, he praised the Chief Minister, BJP state president Kiran Deo, and all party workers for their efforts.
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai also expressed his joy, calling it a "big day" for BJP in Chhattisgarh. "We have won all 10 seats with a huge margin. Congress has been completely wiped out in the civic polls. They didn’t win even a single seat," he said, thanking voters for their support.
The civic elections, held on February 11, covered 173 urban bodies, including 10 municipal corporations, 49 municipal councils, and 114 Nagar Panchayats.
Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh Vishnu Deo Sai last week expressed confidence that the BJP would definitely win Chhattisgarh's Municipal Corporation Elections 2025.
The votes will be counted the day after polling. For the first phase of voting on February 17, counting will take place on February 18. In places where voting takes place on February 20, the results will be counted on February 21. Similarly, after the third phase of polling on February 23, the votes will be counted the next day, February 24.
