Sixth phase voting for DDC election in Jammu and Kashmir

Srinagar: The sixth phase of voting for the District Development Council (DDC) in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir has started on Sunday and over 7.48 lakh voters will decide the political future of 245 candidates including 100 women. State Election Commissioner KK Sharma has given information in this regard.

Let us know that under the first phase of the eight-phase DDC elections, voting was held on November 28 and so far voting has been completed in 190 constituencies out of a total of 280 constituencies in 20 districts. The first phase saw the highest voting percentage of 51.76 per cent on 28 November followed by 48.62 per cent, 50.53 per cent, 50.08 per cent and 51.20 per cent voting on 1, 4, 7 and 10 December respectively. The counting of votes for the DDC election will be held on 22 December.

Giving information, a government spokesperson has said that in addition to the DDC elections, 50 vacant sarpanch seats and 216 vacant panch seats will also be held. These seats fall under DDC constituencies. Elections are being held for the first time after the reorganization of the erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir state. Voting was held on November 28, December 1 and December 4 for the three phases of the first DDC election, with 51.76 per cent, 48.62 per cent and 50.53 per cent votes respectively.
