NEW DELHI: Law Minister Ravi shankar Prasad on Friday introduced a new triple talaq bill in the Lok Sabha. The bill was opposed by all opposition parties, including Congress. However, voting took place in the Lok Sabha amid opposition protests over the bill. Ravi Shankar Prasad said, "In the judgement of Saira Baan, the Supreme Court held that three divorces are unilateral. Art 15(3) says that any law can be enacted to protect women and children. Why such law is not made in 70 years.

He said this is happening even today with Muslim women. The 229 cases came after the Supreme Court's ruling. That's why it should be passed. After voting, a total of 186 votes were cast in support of the bill, while 74 votes were cast against the triple talaq bill. Presenting the bill, Ravi Shankar Prasad said, "We are MPs and it is our job to legislate. The task of the court is to interpret the law. You don't make Parliament a court.

Earlier, on the bill, AIMIM Chairman Asaduddin Awaisi has said that the bill is against Muslim women, who will pay maintenance allowance to Muslim men when they go to jail? Owaisi has said that you are so fascinated by Muslim women, why are you opposed to women in Sabarimala? What kind of stand is yours? Owusi said the triple talaq bill violates Article 14,15 of the Constitution. He said it is against the basic sentiments of the Constitution.
