Former India's veteran Test player VVS Laxman is celebrating his birthday today. Considered a wizard of arts in batting, the player has played a lot of memorable innings for the Indian team. But coming to the most special innings of his Test life, it is undeniably his 281-run innings in the Kolkata Test in 2001. VVS is now a commentator these days after retiring from cricket.

VVS Laxman's innings is one of the finest innings in the entire Test history. In this Test against Australia 19 years ago, the Indian team was on the verge of defeat by an innings. Then VVS Laxman, along with Rahul Dravid, showed such charisma that he created history. VVS Laxman's innings is the story of the golden saga of the Indian cricket team. The Indian team was captained by young captain Saurabh Ganguly during that series. Ganguly was preparing a team that could win any pitch not only in India but also in the world.

The same year (2001) Australia visited India. Under Steve Waugh, the team came to India after winning 15 matches in a match that also defeated India in the 16th match (Mumbai Test). After that, in Lakata, they were nearing their 17th consecutive victory and forced India to follow on.
