HYDERABAD: The Bharat Jodo Yatra of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi arrived in Hyderabad on Tuesday to a huge response by the party members and supporters. On the seventh day of its journey across Telangana, the yatra arrived in Hyderabad after travelling through the districts of Narayanpet, Mahabubnagar, and Rangareddy.
From the Matha temple in Shamshabad, on the outskirts of the city, Rahul Gandhi and other party officials and supporters resumed the walkathon before entering the city through the Bangalore-Hyderabad expressway.
Uttam Kumar Reddy, a Congress MP and the yatra coordinator for Telugu states, Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, a former MP named Madhu Yaskhi Goud, and other leaders, in addition to hundreds of party members, took part in the yatra.
The yatra will come to an end in Bahadurpura, where Rahul Gandhi will interact with different groups, eat lunch, and rest. After going through Puranapul, Hussaini Alam, and Khilwat, the foot march will proceed in the evening and bring participants to the famed Charminar. Rahul Gandhi will raise the flag at the historical site.
On October 19, 1990, Rajiv Gandhi, the late father of Rahul Gandhi and a former prime minister, began the Sadbhavana Yatra at the Charminar to promote racial peace in the twin cities of Secunderabad and Hyderabad.
At the annual Sadbhavana Yatra memorial event held at Charminar, the Congress party honours individuals who have contributed to world peace and intergroup harmony. Rahul Gandhi will lead the Bharat Jodo Yatra from the Charminar to Necklace Road, which runs along the Hussain Sagar lake and separates the twin towns of Hyderabad and Secunderabad.
To get to Necklace Road, the yatra would pass through populated areas including Patthergatti, Madina Circle, Afzal Gunj, MJ Market, Nampally, Saifabad, and Secretariat.
The Congress member will next speak at a corner gathering after decorating the statue of his late grandmother, former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, on Necklace Road. Rahul Gandhi would also pay tribute to late Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao, whose Samadhi is located near Necklace Road, said Congress leader and Telangana in-charge Manickam Tagore.
Later on in the day, Mallikarjun Kharge, the recently elected president of the Congress, would also join the Bharat Jodo Yatra in Hyderabad. He will walk for some distance with Rahul Gandhi and is expected to address the corner meeting at Necklace Road.
