New Delhi: In Guwahati, the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI), Sagarmala Development Company Limited (SDCL), Assam Tourism Development Corporation Limited (ATDC), and Directorate of Inland Water Transport (DIWT) Assam will sign a Memorandum of Understanding for the "Riverine based tourism Circuit" that is being developed over the river Brahmaputra.

Both Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal would be present at the signing event.

In this connection, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways said that the 'Riverine-based tourism Circuit' will connect 7 historic temples in the region and the project is being developed at the initial cost of Rs 40-45 crores.

The Sagarmala Programme is funding the project's early development costs, which are between Rs 40 and Rs 45 crore. Together, SDCL and IWAI will contribute 55% of the project's costs, with ATDC covering the remaining 40%. According to the government, DIWT has agreed to offer the project free use of ghats close to temples.

The seven historical temples in Guwahati—Kamakhya, Pandunath, Ashwaklanta, Doul Govinda, Umananda, Chakreshwar, and Auniati Satra—will be linked by the Sagarmala project. The circuit will set out at Hanuman Ghat in Uzan Bazar and will travel all the way there by passing through the rivers of the aforementioned temples. said the  ministry, the ferry service will enable travellers to complete one full round in less than two hours overall.
