Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee  today (August 1) announced there will be a Cabinet expansion in the state on Wednesday, August 3. "We will do a reshuffle on August 3. There will be  4 to 5 new faces," said Mamata.

The development comes soon after former minister Partha Chatterjee was detained by Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the SSC recruitment scam case.

Partha Chatterjee was minister-in-charge of the departments of industry, commerce & enterprises, Information Technology and electronics, parliamentary affairs & public enterprises, and industrial reconstruction.

Following his arrest on Thursday, the CM assumed control of the departments. Partha Chatterjee's four departments are among the 11 departments that Banerjee is now in charge of.

"Many of them are writing a lot. We don't have an intension to dissolve the whole ministry and formulate a new one. However, of course, there will be a reshuffle. We lost ministers Subrata Mukherjee, Sadhan Pande. Partha da is in jail so all their work has to be done. Not possible for me to handle alone," added Bengal CM.

To improve local administration and development, the Mamata Banerjee government in West Bengal has resolved to divide the existing 23 districts into seven new ones. The seven new districts are Sunderban, Ichhamati, Ranaghat, Bishnupur, Jangipur, Behrampur, and Basirhat, according to the administration.

Earlier there were 23 districts in  West Bengal now it has risen to 30. Sunderban, Ichhemati, Ranaghat, Bishnupur, Jangipur, Behrampur, and one more district would be named Basirhat are among the seven new districts " CM Mamata Banerjee said.
