Mumbai: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) president Sharad Pawar is once again in the news. This time, he is being criticised all-round for using abusive words for Hindu gods and goddesses. Sharad Pawar was invited as a guest at a function organised by the Indian Institute of Tribal Research and Development at Satara in Maharashtra on May 9.
Addressing the people present there, Sharad Pawar mentioned the poem of Jawahar Rathod. Referring to Rathore's poem, the NCP chief said how he described his coming from a backward caste and the treatment meted out to him by the people. Sharad Pawar said, "We carved the idols, but you only kept them inside the temples and you brother-in-law don't even let us enter the temples?"
At the same function, Sharad Pawar was reportedly citing poet Jawahar Rathod for criticising priests for not allowing persons from lower castes to enter temples. Pawar further said, "Brahma-Vishnu-Mahesh, these Hindu deities we have created from Chhani and other using our own tools. We are also the fathers of your God, for we have made him your God. That is why Jawahar Rathore has written a poem which says that we will not tolerate the injustice done to us. ”
