New Delhi: PM Narendra Modi today recalled and paid homage to the valor and sacrifice of Indian Armed Forces personnel who sacrificed their lives in the 1971 Indo-Pak war. In a tweet on the occasion, PM Modi recalled how India fought and won with repressive forces together.

 

 

PM Modi tweeted, "On 50th Vijay Diwas, I remember the valor and sacrifice of the liberating warriors and brave soldiers of the Indian Armed Forces. Together, we fought and won with repressive forces. The Presence of the President in Dhaka holds special significance for every Indian. President Ram Nath Kovind has arrived in Bangladesh to attend the celebrations on the 50th Vijay Diwas.

On this day in 1971, Lt Gen Amir Abdullah Khan Niazi, Chief Martial Law Administrator of West Pakistan and commander of Pakistani military forces based in East Pakistan (Bangladesh) signed the 'Instrument of Surrender to form Bangladesh. Niazi had signed the surrender in the presence of Jagjit Singh Arora, who is representing Indian and Bangladesh forces in Dhaka. Bangladesh came into existence after this war in 1971.
