New Delhi: The Indian Meteorological Department has predicted monsoon to reach Kerala on Saturday. The monsoon reaches other parts of the country only after it hits the Kerala coast. Earlier, the department had made a point of reaching Kerala on June 7, estimating five-six days late arrival.

According to information received from sources, the Meteorological Department said on Saturday that there will be monsoon rainfall in Kerala within next 24 hours. Two days later, the monsoon will be knocked out in the northeast. The IMD chief said that from south to North India, the monsoon would be delayed by five to seven days. The forecast for its progress at the moment will be premature. However, the country will have less than normal rainfall in June.

IMD has predicted a heatwave to continue in north and central India by next week. From Saturday to Tuesday, the situation of severe heatwave will continue in the states of Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Vidarbha in Maharashtra. Hoshangabad in Madhya Pradesh was the hottest on Friday. The temperature was 46.8 degrees Celsius, while the mercury in Churu in Rajasthan recorded 46.6 degrees.
