Chandigarh: A day after Cabinet minister Navjot Singh Sidhu was replaced in a reshuffle in the Punjab cabinet, he was unable to get any contact, which has led to speculation that he will take over the new one. Cricketer-turned-politician Sidhu and his wife Navjot Kaur had kept the distance from the media on Friday. One of his colleagues refused to disclose anything about the minister amid speculation about Sidhu's next move.
In fact, in the Punjab cabinet reshuffle on Thursday, the Department of Local governance, tourism and culture was stripped back by a tussle with Punjab CM Amarinder Singh. He has been assigned the charge of the Department of Energy and New and renewable energy. The change was made hours after Sidhu was away from a cabinet meeting, in which most of the ministers ' departments were changed.
However, Sidhu opted to speak to the press ones at his official residence on Thursday. He has said that his department was publicly targeted for the party's crushing defeat in the Lok Sabha elections. Meanwhile, Shiromani Akali Dal President Sukhbir Singh Badal, in a tweet on the change of Sidhu's department, wrote that, "... And now Sidhu has been given the energy (department) so that Sidhu can perform better and get the same results in rural areas as well. "
