PM Modi will be the first to visit Maldives under his first bilateral visit after winning the Lok Sabha polls and returning to power. He will visit Sri Lanka from Maldives on Sunday.

In a statement issued prior to PM Modi's departure, he said his visit to Sri Lanka was to express India's solidarity with the Government and people of the island country in the wake of the "horrific terrorist attacks" on April 21. PM Modi said, "The people of India stand firmly with the Sri Lankan people, who suffered great anguish and destruction in the wake of the horrific terrorist attack on the day of Easter. We fully support Sri Lanka in the fight against terrorism. "
