Dubai: Aaron Finch remarked on Sunday that his squad is ecstatic to be the first Australian side to win the ICC Men's T20 World Cup in the shortest version of the game.

Mitchell Marsh's unbeaten 77 off 50 balls, a crucial half-century by David Warner (53 off 38 balls), and a superb spell by Josh Hazlewood (3/16) helped Australia end their 14-year wait for a first Men's T20 World Cup trophy, defeating New Zealand by eight wickets in the final at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday.

"This is enormous. Being the first Australian team to accomplish this feat. I'm ecstatic. We were well aware that we were up against a brick wall. There were several outstanding individual efforts as well as outstanding team performances "At the post-match presentation ceremony, Australia captain Finch stated. Warner, the skipper's opening partner, was also commended for his outstanding batsmanship. "I can't believe people dismissed him and said he was finished (Warner). That's when he's at his most effective. It was almost as if you were poking the bear "he said

The Australian skipper praised other athletes for their watch-winning contributions, saying, "For me, the tournament's best player (Zampa). What a way to start Mitch Marsh's innings today. Wade came into this game with an injury scare, but he still managed to get the job done. Stoinis took care of things." Meanwhile, Kane Williamson, the losing captain, noted that Australia is a wonderful team that didn't give an inch.
