Kolkata: In view of the increasing cases of Coronavirus in West Bengal, the lockdown has been extended till 31 August. CM Mamata Banerjee announced this on Tuesday. However, there will be no lockdown this week due to Bakrid. Mamata Banerjee has appealed to Muslims to cooperate in the lock-down. She said, "Due to the religious festival, we are not putting a lockdown this week, but people should avoid gathering at one place. I urge everyone to celebrate the festival indoors".

Bengal CM further said "There will be complete lockdown on August 2 and 5. After this, the lockdown will remain in force on 8 and 9 August as well. A complete lockdown has also been announced on 16, 17, 22, 23, 29 and 30 August". Earlier, CM Banerjee had demanded a fund of Rs 1000 crore from PM Modi on Monday. Bengal CM said "This fund will be used in the war against Corona. Mamata said "If she wants, she can take this amount from the State Disaster Response Fund. But in that case, if there is another disaster in the state again, there will be a huge shortage of money."
