On December 21, a fire at the Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL) refinery in Haldia, West Bengal, took the lives of three workers and injured 44 others.

According to a senior police officer in the Purba Medinipur district, 37 of the 44 injured have been taken to a hospital in Kolkata. Seven of them are presently in critical condition, according to the officer.  The incident occurred at a refinery unit during shutdown-related maintenance, according to the IOC. "The major cause appears to be a flash fire that resulted in burn injuries to 44 people, three of whom have unfortunately died as a result of their injuries," it said.

The fire has been blown out, and the situation is under control, according to the IOC. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed her condolences for the killings and promised that the state government will aid those who were hurt.

"Deeply anguished by the fire in IOC, Haldia. Three precious lives were lost and my thoughts are with the bereaved families in this hour of grief. Those injured are being brought to Kolkata through a green corridor. GoWB will extend all assistance to ensure their speedy recovery," Banerjee tweeted.

Some of the injured have been shifted to Haldia Refinery Hospital."

According to the minister, a thorough enquiry has been requested to determine the cause of the disaster. "A green corridor was created for the transportation of critical patients to higher medical management institutes. All people who have been harmed will be compensated and receive the best medical treatment possible. To determine the cause of the accident, a thorough enquiry has been requested "Puri said in a tweet tweet.
