New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah made a statement in the Lok Sabha on The Nagaland violence on Monday. He said the security forces had prepared for an operation against the militants. A vehicle was stopped by the security forces, but the vehicle started running fast. The army became suspicious and opened fire. 6 out of 8 people in the vehicle lost their lives. Later proved to be a case of mistaken identity. It was the army that admitted two injured to the hospital.
People surrounded army vehicles and attacked them. One soldier lost his life and several others were injured in the attack. Security forces had to fire again under their own protection, killing 7 civilians and injuring some others. The local administration has tried to control the situation. The atmosphere is tense but under control. Nagaland DGP and Commissioner visited the spot and reviewed the matter. The local administration has imposed prohibitory orders in view of the seriousness of the matter.
The state crime branch has been entrusted with the responsibility of investigation. An SIT has been constituted to provide justice to the victims, who will complete the investigation within a month and report. The Home Minister said that after the unfortunate incident, an angry mob of 250 people attacked the COB of Assam Rifles in Mon city. Assam Rifles personnel had to fire to disperse the crowd, killing another civilian and injuring several others.
