A risk factor in pregnancy is something that can cause harm to both the mother and the infant. Some of the risk factors are:

  • Mothers under the age of 18 years could have problems due to underdeveloped pelvis.
  • Women aged 35 years or older may have other complications such as high blood pressure, still births etc.
  • Women with low hemoglobin levels may have problems like Post Partum Hemorrhage.
  • Women whose height is less than 5 feet.
  • Having repeated pregnancies increases the risk of rapid labor.
  • Women suffering from other chronic diseases like heart disease or diabetes.
  • Women who have had miscarriages earlier.
  • When a mother has a weight of less than 42 kgs.
  • Complications may arise due to twin pregnancies.
