Kolkata: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has arrested former education minister Partha Chatterjee, the industries minister of the State's Mamata Banerjee government, for his alleged involvement in the SSC recruitment scam in West Bengal. During a search at the house of Arpita Mukherjee, a close aide of Partha Chatterjee, the investigating agency recovered over Rs 20 crore in cash on Friday. Apart from this, gold worth about Rs 50 lakh, land documents and several illegal properties have also been seized. Let us know that after the allegation of the SSC recruitment scam, Justice Abhijeet Ganguly of the Calcutta High Court ordered a CBI inquiry into the matter. The CBI had also questioned him and the current Minister of State for Education Paresh Chandra Adhikari, but when the matter of financial transactions came to light in the case, the ED has taken over the investigation of the matter. As soon as the matter came into the hands of the ED, there has been political turmoil across the country. In fact, the investigating agency on Friday raided 13 locations of those considered close to Partha Chatterjee in Kolkata and seized crores of rupees in cash from the house of actress Arpita Chatterjee.

What is the SSC scam in Bengal:-

The matter started in the year 2018, at that time Partha Chatterjee was the education minister in the Mamata Banerjee government. Then 1002 such people were appointed, who either could not take the exam or could not pass the exam. A petition was filed in the court against the case. A bench of the Calcutta High Court had constituted an inquiry committee headed by former Justice Ranjit Kumar Bagh to look into the entire matter. The committee had held SSC Chairman Soumitra Sarkar, Chairman of Madhya Shiksha Parishad Kalyanmayi Ganguly, SSC Secretary Ashok Kumar Saha, former Chairman Subrata Bhattacharya, Zonal Chairman Sharmila Mitra, Subhojit Chatterjee, Sheikh Sirajuddin, Mahua Biswas, Chaitali Bhattacharya and Technical Officer of the Board Rajesh Layak for the entire corruption and recommended action against them. At the same time, the committee had also named the state's Minister of State for Education Paresh Chandra Adhikari, but despite this, the Mamata government of Bengal did not take any action against anyone.

On the charge of scam in teacher appointment, Babita Sarkar approached the court alleging that Ankita Adhikari, daughter of the minister of state for education Paresh Chandra Adhikari, was given a job even after getting fewer marks. The court of Justice Abhijit Ganguly immediately took action on the plea and ordered a CBI inquiry into the entire matter and fired minister Ankita Adhikari's daughter from the job, with the court directing her to refund her full salary.

At the same time, when the Enforcement Directorate's entry in the case took place, the ED raided the house of Paresh Adhikari on Friday in the course of the investigation. Partha Chatterjee's former assistant Sukanta Acharya is also on the radar in the case. The ED has also questioned him and the then secretary, Manish Jain. Thus every officer and minister belonging to the Education Department of Bengal is on the radar of the ED in this matter. Questions are also being raised about Mamata Banerjee, who did not take any action against the culprits even when they were known.
