New Delhi: In the first match of the three-match ODI series against the West Indies, captain and opener Shikhar Dhawan made a splash. He led Team India to a landslide victory in the first match with his brilliant half-century innings and has also made a record in his name.

Dhawan has broken the record of Sunil Gavaskar, Mohammad Azharuddin, Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Rohit Sharma, popularly known as the Little Master, with his half-century in this ODI match played in Port of Spain. In fact, Dhawan has now become the oldest Indian captain to score a half-century in ODI cricket.

36 years 120 days - Mohammad Azharuddin (in 1999)
35 years 225 days - Sunil Gavaskar (in 1985)
35 years 108 days - MS Dhoni (in 2016)

Let us know that Dhawan scored this half-century at the age of 36 years and 229 days. Before Dhawan, the record was held by former captain Azharuddin, who scored a half-century at the age of 36 years and 120 days. Azharuddin set this record in 1999. In this case, the name Sunil Gavaskar is in third place, who scored fifty at the age of 35 years and 225 days.
