Somvati Amavasya enjoys a massive significance in Hindu religion. As per the holy text, the 15th day of the Krishna Paksha of every month is considered as Amavasya. Religiously, the Amavasya date is considered fruitful for worshiping ancestors and performing all kinds of astrological remedies. According to the Panchang, today is the new moon day of Phalgun month, and its importance when this day falls on Monday its importance increases as Monday is the day of Lord Shiva. All the Amvasya that falls on Monday are called as Somavati Amavasya. If it is possible, one should go to the river Ganga or any other river or holy lake and bathe there and donate clothes and food to the needy.
