Kyiv: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has arrived in Ukraine for a historic visit aimed at discussing ways to resolve the ongoing conflict. Modi's trip, at the invitation of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, marks the first time an Indian prime minister has visited Ukraine since its independence in 1991.
Modi's visit to Kyiv follows his recent trip to Moscow, which had drawn criticism from the US and its Western allies. During his time in Ukraine, Modi is expected to share insights on achieving a peaceful resolution to the conflict and to strengthen bilateral cooperation between India and Ukraine.
Before departing Delhi, Modi expressed his anticipation for the discussions, saying, "I look forward to building on previous conversations with President Zelenskyy, focusing on strengthening our cooperation and exploring peaceful solutions to the ongoing conflict. As a friend and partner, we hope for a swift return of peace and stability to the region."
Modi traveled to Kyiv from Poland aboard a 'Rail Force One' train, a journey that took approximately 10 hours. The return trip will follow the same route and duration.
India has maintained a neutral stance on the Russian invasion of Ukraine, advocating for conflict resolution through dialogue and diplomacy. Modi's visit to Poland, which preceded this trip, was notable as it marked the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the country in 45 years.
