WhatsApp is introducing a new feature that allows users to personalize their conversations with custom chat themes, enhancing the overall messaging experience. Currently in beta testing, this feature offers more control over chat customization.
The custom chat themes feature is available to select beta users on WhatsApp version 2.24.21.34 for Android and version 24.20.71 for iOS. Users enrolled in the Google Play Beta Program will be able to access 22 themes, each with up to 20 different color variations. This will allow users to adjust both the chat background and the overall color scheme of their conversations.
Up until now, WhatsApp only allowed users to switch between light and dark modes. However, the new "Chat Theme" settings page will offer broader personalization options. Users will have the flexibility to apply a universal theme across all chats or set individual themes for specific conversations. These themes will be visible only to the user who applied them, ensuring privacy.
In addition to the chat theme feature, WhatsApp has enhanced its video calling capabilities with several new updates. Users can now apply filters such as Warm, Cool, and Dreamy during calls. Background customization options like cozy living room scenes, beach settings, or a simple blur for privacy are also available.
For improved video quality, WhatsApp has introduced a "Touch Up" feature along with a "Low Light" mode. These features are designed to enhance the visual experience during video calls, especially in low-light conditions. Users can easily access these tools during calls by tapping the effects icon.
While these features are currently in beta testing, WhatsApp is expected to roll them out to all users in the coming weeks.
